It’s your responsibility to teach others how to treat you. But the truth is, most women are not equipped with the tools, the self-confidence or the inner worthiness to see this through with grace. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, instead of owning your space like a Queen, the boundaries are leaky and the energy is scattered. The courageous convos are awkward... or non-existent. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The "truth" you want to speak is watered down as not to offend or ruffle feathers. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As a whole, we would rather look "nice and good" than honest and powerful. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ People-pleasing. Playing small. Placating. Avoiding. Not being honest about your needs. Allowing unsafe people in your inner-circle. Saying "yes" when you want to say "no." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you want to be the queen of your space, it's time to rise to the call. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Demanding respect isn’t the way. Cowering back in fear of offending isn’t the way. Care-taking the emotions of others is not the way. Carelessly speaking your mind and telling your innermost feelings to unsafe people, is not the way. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The only way is to take 100% responsibility for your experience, your needs and your communication, and ***let go*** of managing the experience of others. (Cue the serenity prayer). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Are you honoring your inner-most needs and desires? The way you show up for yourself sets the tone for how others treat you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You're the boss, babe. It's clear, we've got big dreams. Truth to speak. Change to make. Projects to create... but we so often are stuck waiting for permission. Waiting for acceptance. Waiting for love. Waiting for the invitation. Waiting for perfection. Waiting for someone to read our minds and meet our needs… ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The truth is, no one is coming to claim it for us. And I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of waiting for permission to be fully expressed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I won’t wait till Halloween to be “weird” or sexy. I won’t wait till Christmas to give and receive gifts of love. I won’t wait till my birthday to celebrate my aliveness. I won’t wait till New Years to dream bigger. I won’t wait till I reach a breaking point before I ask for help. Spending time this morning reflecting on what a privilege it is to have a voice and be able to use it freely, confidently and safely. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This wasn’t always the case for women and still isn’t for many. I personally have spent ample time in therapy and with my coaching mentors learning to trust my own voice and not be sent into a shame-spiral by speaking up. My work certainly isn’t done but this year I feel such a clearing my fullest expression. I have never felt so free and confidently me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ (And I don’t take it lightly). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thank you for sharing in my full expression and my journey to owning my truth ever more bravely. 10 years ago I was living in hiding from my own family with boundaries so strong and faux positivity so glittery no one could penetrate the walls I'd built; now I live with honesty and integrity. 6 years ago I was hiding from my own need for healing; now I live openly and vulnerably with my humanity. 2 years ago I was living in hiding about my exit from Christianity, and now I feel grace and peace from the depths of my soul. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's safe to say hiding helped me survive, but it never worked for the life of freedom and full expression I desire to live. The more I see and own, the more expanded I become. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here's to showing up, being seen, and speaking our truth. And gratitude for being able to. Walking down the street in awe of the fall leaves. Sipping an espresso so creamy and perfect your heart expands. Listening to music so raw and pure you get chills. Eating fries and malts so tasty you’ve lost track of just how much you’ve eaten. + Finding the perfect sunglasses at a thrift store. Making friends out of strangers. Delighting in watching other people delight in life; dancing and singing and crying from joy at a concert. ✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Nothing profound. Nothing inherently spiritual or seemingly enlightened. Just a bunch of humans taking delight in being human. If that’s not alignment I don’t know what is. ✨ Don’t overthink joy. #iammyownresponsibility
I've spent the last year healing and repairing my relationship to the feminine. For years I labeled myself as a "daddy issues" person. My most obvious wounds were at the hands of men... right? Right... but it wasn't the whole story. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The truth is: the system is broken. Meaning, there were WOMEN in my life who protected my abusers, upheld the power structures that kept me silent, modeled silence and even told me not to use my voice for change. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💁🏼‍♀️It was a woman who sat me down and told me my business would send women to hell, and I'd better drop this ego charade and find my place in my home as a wife. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💃🏼It was a woman who told me my abuse was "normal" and happens to all young girls. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💅🏻It was a woman who told me, "you know how men are/ you know how these things go/ let's not make a fuss..." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'm not here to blame or ask for support (I've been through that season in a safe space with my mentors). I'm here to tell the truth. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And now that I've found my voice, I'll be DAMNED if I don't use it to liberate myself and others every time I can. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ SO MY LADIES it's about time we speak truth to bullshit, use our voices to bring life and positivity by **eradicating injustice** where we can, and claim our wholeness so it's no longer "brave" to speak your truth, but the most obvious fucking next step of your wholeness. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yep, this means boundaries. Yep, this means self-care. Yep, this means protecting your energy. Yep, this means healing. And yep, this means VOTE. Your voice matters. Sure, you've got quirks, old programming and pain and grief left lingering from the past, that gossip habit that you'd rather not admit. And of course, you scroll for longer than you "should," you feel like a fraud (even though you're more than capable) and still have days where you prove your place instead of trusting your magic. Hey loves! I've been hibernating, enjoying all the butternut squash soup and this crisp fall weather when I realized *10k of you* are here with me in this little corner of the internet! (LIKE WTF!?) That’s more people than in my entire hometown and I DO NOT take that lightly. So in light of basically a small village joining me on instagram, I thought I’d peek my head out from the cozy blankets I've been under and say hello!🍂😍 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ HEY, I'm Madison and I believe the things that are weird and complex about our human story are usually the most interesting. Let’s get to know each other with a few fun facts! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1- I have 6 siblings, none of whom have the same 2 parents... and one of them is named Madeline. YES, we do both go by Maddie. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ 2- I was a die-hard evangelical for years. 🙏🏼✝️ (From speaking in tongues to Calvinism, to bible studies 3x a week and overseas mission trips on the reg). My deconstruction still brings old church friends by surprise I was so devout. I’m still devoted. Now just to questions and mystery! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3- In addition to dance, I also practiced HapKiDo as a child, and am the youngest American female to ever achieve a blackbelt in it. Direct quote from my grandmaster, "That boy kick good." I'll take it. 🤺 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My history doesn’t define me, but I sure as hell am thankful for the messy, fun and complex journey of mine! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What about you? There are days I forget. Who I am. Why I’m doing what I’m doing. Days where my spirit drifts into the monotony and I forget to both tune in and look up. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Then there are days I remember. Who I am. Why this work matters so deeply. Days where I meet my clients face to face and their words bring me to tears. Days where my spirit says, “yes, more of this. Follow these breadcrumbs,” and I do. Days where I listen. Where I say YES. Where I lean in. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ All of my days are not the latter. I forget. I drift. But when I remember, I do so with conviction.
