Reflections on Winning the BYCA International Coach of the Year Award

It’s hard to believe that this time last year, I was preparing to travel for the first time to Melbourne, Australia with my husband Phil to accept the International Coach of the Year Award from Beautiful You Coaching Academy. Looking back at the whole experience, I still feel so joyful about my coaching journey and this milestone, and I could not be more grateful.

I’m so thankful to Julie Parker and the BYCA team for honoring me with the Award for 2017/2018 and for asking me to be the featured writer in Inspired Coach Magazine!

During my time in Melbourne with my fellow Beautiful You Certified Coaches, I not only had THE best coffee I’ve ever had, I was given the opportunity to pause, breathe, and celebrate the life I've chosen to claim as my own. My 3-year journey as a coach has stretched me in so many ways + flipped my world upside down.  [Read my blog post from my first year as a coach here].

Moments like this make me realize how grateful I truly am to have chosen to follow my heart and do this work.

In the 3 years since launching my business, I have left behind versions of myself too small to dance in, made heaps of mistakes (many of them grammar related LOL!), worked too hard, asked for help, built a team of incredible women that help me succeed, learned to laugh at myself, give grace to others, have met the best humans on earth and have had the privilege of coaching 200+ of them.

I am so proud of the woman this work has made me. I've become (and am still becoming) the woman of my dreams:

A woman who is open.

A woman who shows up for herself and others.

A woman with strong and loving boundaries.

A woman who works with intention and from passion.

A woman able to receive.

A woman who asks for more.

and most of all...

A woman who believes she is worthy.

Winning the BYCA CEO Shine Award

"The Shine Award is given to the Beautiful You Life Coach that CEO & Founder Julie Parker believes most embodies the qualities of a Beautiful You Coach and consistently shows heart, commitment and authentic effort in serving their clients and building their business."

This year I was a finalist in two categories at the Beautiful You Coaching Academy Awards Gala: International Coach of The Year along with the CEO Shine Award... and...

I was handpicked by Julie Parker alongside Amy Mackenzie to receive the Shine Award!

I could not be more humbled and honored to stand by my sista Amy and share this recognition.

(Is there anything sweeter than being acknowledged by your mentor as embodying the heart and spirit of authenticity!? I think not.)

Having the opportunity to grow, learn, and work alongside each of the women who were selected as finalists has been the greatest honor. It is truly a gift to be in a community of women who desire to lift one another higher and champion each other to shine.

That's what this is all about for me.

It's when women of all religions, colors, sizes, and personalities have the space to be known, join in a sisterhood, and explore their own uniqueness. It's letting go of what we "should" be like, look like, act like, and embrace all of what it means FOR US to come alive.

Receiving the Shine Award means the most to me though, because of the transformation this coaching journey has brought into my life. I had no idea the ride I would be taking when I decided to become a coach a little over 2 years ago. Julie Parker our "goddess mum" and CEO taught me how to be a coach, how to believe in myself, how to shine, be known in this industry with integrity, and beyond those things, taught me it’s okay to be your own brand of woman, to be fierce and sassy and feminine and witty. Julie gave me permission to see the world bigger and realize that I, too, can play big.

If you're reading this, thank you for following my journey and being a part of changing my life in every way imaginable. Keep shining.

UPDATE: Since winning the Shine Award, I am honored to have gone on to win BYCA’s International Coach of the Year and be featured as Inspired Coach’s covergirl!

Curious about becoming a coach yourself?

Celebrating my one year coaching anniversary at the BYCA Inspiration Day

While I was in San Fran speaking on the BYCA panel, I also celebrated my one year anniversary as a life coach!  If I’m honest, it was a hell of a year, and I didn’t stop to look up until last week.  As I was flying to San Fransisco to speak at the Beautiful You Inspiration Day it hit me:

I'm living my freaking dream.

As gorgeous as the photos are and how amazing the event was, I want to share not only the highlights of my year and photos of the event, I also want to be real about what this past year has been like.  Ups, downs, success, failure. It's been a year of coming alive.

One year in business for myself.

One year of love, learning, growth, collaboration, hard work, and well, coaching my gorgeous clients. This past year I’ve been blessed to coach 28 women, speak to over 200 people at gatherings, start a podcast, start a local collaborative in my hometown, be coached by some of the best in the biz, develop the best friendships I’ve ever had, be a part of more beautiful conversations than most people should have in a lifetime, travel to speak, and grow my business to full-time income (YAY!!).

Successes usually don't come without lessons.

You may not know that while all the successes were coming in, I also worked 4 jobs, sometimes working 80 hour weeks, worked opposite schedules as my husband for periods of time, was criticized for my work, felt like I was being stretched far beyond what I was able, deconstructed my faith, learned how to take care of myself, learned to work smarter not harder, went to counseling (a lot), and came alive more than I thought I ever would. I’ve learned much more than a year’s worth.

You can’t make your business about coming alive if you’re not willing to go through the fire yourself!

That’s why I’m sharing both the highlights and the lowest lows, not to get pity or to make you think I had it hard, but to remind you that the journey is sometimes messy.

Your journey won’t be picture perfect. And that’s okay! In fact, I think great years are made up of so much more than glitter, sunshine, speaking gigs, and fun travels.

Great years are the years you let life have it’s way with you.

Where you surrender to what’s coming, unfolding, and unraveling. All the things that I let go of this year turned out to bless me 10 times over.  Every moment I chose to lean into my fear and failures, they turned to freaking gold.  I have learned more about myself than ever, healed patterns that no longer served me, overcame negative beliefs, and strengthened my relationships because I let myself experience all this year had to offer.

True joy comes from living fully alive and allowing the real you to rise.

I can say I honestly feel fully alive, and I am just so grateful for all this first year as a coach has brought into my life. Celebrating my one year with BYCA at the Inspiration Day was so special.

It was a day I’ll never forget.

If you've been a part of my journey thus far, from my first Inspiration Day, my first clients, my Bravery Board gals, my friends, every single person who believed in me- thank you. I'm overwhelmed with gratitude.

Cheers to living fully alive and achieving our dreams!

Beautiful You Coaching Academy Review | Part 2: Interview with founder Julie Parker

Beautiful You Coaching Academy Review

This week one year ago I made a decision to attend Beautiful You Coaching Academy, a choice that changed my life forever. In honor of my journey I want to share with you heart of Beautiful You, as well as my experience.  I chose to make this a 2-part post because I have SO MUCH GOOD to say about the program and everyone in it. Part 1 was all about my experience with Beautiful You, Part 2 is an interview with founder and lead trainer, Julie Parker.

Julie is one of the kindest, most passionate women I know and it is such an honor to have her interview on the blog.  She exemplifies the grace and love that I strive for in my coaching.

If you're thinking of becoming a coach, or wondering why I chose BYCA as my school, get to know Julie today. Her genuine love of life and people rub off on everyone who interacts with her.  Working so closely with her through the course made it that much more intimate. She's not only my trainer and owner of the company, she is truly a mentor.

Julie lives in Melbourne with her husband, stepdaughter and two much loved adopted cats.

Julie, thank you for taking the time to share your story and heart with my tribe.

What inspired you to start BYCA?

"I have been a life and business coach for more than fifteen years and in the last years of working with my clients before establishing the Beautiful You Coaching Academy, I was chiefly coaching coaches.  They wanted to learn how I was coaching my clients and marketing myself to create the sort of business they wanted for themselves.

BYCA

I loved helping them in a way that was soulful, authentic and focused on how they wanted to feel as a coach and entrepreneur every day.  However eventually I became so in demand (a very lovely issue to have!) that I had a six month waiting list and I knew I couldn’t sustain that for any length of time.

I consulted an amazing business coach and she bought to the surface something I had been secretly thinking about for a long time which was starting a life coaching academy training coaches, (and those who wanted to become one), in the way I was successfully working with clients, something I had developed and evolved over many years.

And we started small with a lovely pilot group and since then have grown to have hundreds of Beautiful You Life Coaches from all over the world.  I love training them and seeing the incredible impact they are having on the world."

"I founded the Beautiful You Coaching Academy out of my sheer love for and commitment to coaching."

What is different about BYCA compared to other schools?

The Beautiful You Life Coaching Course is very heart centered, caring, inclusive and embracing of people who want to bring their own skills, passions, education and experiences to become the type of coach that is going to make them feel happy, fulfilled and like they are making a real difference in the world.  We provide our trainees with an incredible coaching model that is certified by the International Coaching Federation and that we know works, however we want everyone who learns with us to take what we teach them and truly make it their own.

We are not the sort of training school that tells people you must ‘do it this way’ or that you are a ‘bad’ coach if you don’t.  We are much more flexible, open and inclusive than that and I am sure that’s the reason why we attract truly caring, soulful trainees that are creating successful coaching businesses in their own way and inspiring so many clients while doing so.  It also I am sure is part of the reason why our courses are so in demand and often sell out months in advance!

What is your favorite part of your job?

I’d love to sneak in two if I may!

I get a thrill every time I see a Beautiful You Coaching Academy trainee or new coach shout from the rooftops when they get their first paying client.  That will never get old for me and I am always so overjoyed for them when it happens.

The second is seeing the incredible relationships that develop in every course with people from all over the world.  It is truly magical and I feel very blessed to be a small part of seeing that unfold and the richness it brings to our coaches lives.

What would she say to someone wanting to be a coach, but is unsure if they are "healthy" or "emotionally ready" enough?

Be lovingly honest with yourself.

If you genuinely feel as though you need loving time to entirely focus on you and your own healing then take that and know that if becoming a life coach is calling you – it will still be there when you are feeling stronger.  However also know that it is a myth that life coaches need to have ‘perfect lives’ – everything sorted out – be fully ok all the time – never get things wrong – not make mistakes – have pristine relationships – and whatever else perfectionist type binds we place on ourselves.

"The best coaches are those who embrace their flaws and the messiness of life."

Clients do not want to see pristine versions of people that we may think we know on the internet, but in reality are a façade of what is a genuine life.  They want someone real, relatable and working through the inevitable peaks and valleys of life like we all do.

And so if you know you are not available enough to help others because you need help first – then by all means be brave and work on you to get those things back to a loving place for yourself.  If however you just ‘think’ you have to have those things where they ‘should’ be then please give yourself a nice break! You are totally enough as you are and do not need to be anything more than yourself to be a wonderful coach.

I asked Julie these specific questions today because they were the questions I asked when I was searching for my path. Why Beautiful You? Would I truly love this job? What if I'm not ready? What if I'm not enough? What does "heart centered" mean and how can I become wholehearted?

All of these questions were answered on my journey with BYCA and continue to show themselves true. Julie is a complete inspiration to me, and even more of a peach in person. (As you can see above, we are total floral twins!)

If you would like to hear more from Julie, find her on the Beautiful You site, Facebook, and Instagram.

If you want to chat with me more about my experience with Beautiful You, I would love to chat. Shoot me a message! Read about my experience with BYCA here.
